Protocol Stacks for Services
نویسندگان
چکیده
We show how to model service-oriented applications using process algebras such that, on the one hand, we can achieve a certain level of abstraction without being overwhelmed by the underlying implementation details and, on the other hand, we respect the concrete industrial standards used for implementing the service-oriented applications. By doing so, we will be able to not only reason about applications at different levels of abstractions, but also to build a bridge between the views of researchers on formal methods and developers in industry. We apply our approach to an industrial case study taken from the EU funded project SENSORIA.

Component Framework Technology for Flexible Protocol Stacks
The context of this paper and the corresponding challenges are formed by network services and their requirements to the underlying protocol stack. The relevance of this research is confirmed by three recent trends in network services and their execution environment: growing reliance of businesses and individuals on network connectivity, highly dynamic network characteristics, and a wide range o...
متن کاملThe Deployment of Protocol Stack Components Using Web Services
Multimedia has varying optimal transport methods. The traditional methods employed by transport protocols are to ship all data through identical protocol stacks. An ideal method would transport each media through an optimized stack constructed solely for that medium, allowing improved multimedia QoS to be achieved even at runtime. Dynamically composable protocol stacks overcome the limitations ...
متن کاملAn Open Source H.323-SIP Gateway as Basis for Supplementary Service Interworking
IP telephony is currently evolving from a more or less still experimental towards a carrier grade service which has the potential of extensive use both within the Internet as well as in Intranets. Currently we see the two signaling protocol families H.323 and SIP existing and further evolving simultaneously. For both, efforts are done to not only establish basic calls but to enable so called Su...
متن کاملQuality-of-Service-oriented Communication Support for Multipoint Applications
The Multipoint Communication Framework MCF defines and implements a communication architecture that offers flexible multipoint communication services with end-to-end performance guarantees. The requirements of multimedia, multipoint applications are fulfilled by dynamically composed protocol stacks which run on top of a state-of the art network such as an ATM or IP integrated services network. ...
متن کاملCommunication Protocol Decomposition and Component-based Protocol Submodule
Due to evolving network technologies as well as increased and varying demands of modern applications on embedded systems, general-purpose protocol stacks are not always adequate. We examine the usefulness of component-based software engineering for the implementation of software communication systems. We present an architecture that allows dividing protocol software into fully de-coupled compon...
متن کاملBeyond Interoperability – Pushing the Performance of Sensor Network IP Stacks
Interoperability is essential for the commercial adoption of wireless sensor networks. However, existing sensor network architectures have been developed in isolation and thus interoperability has not been a concern. Recently, IP has been proposed as a solution to the interoperability problem of low-power and lossy networks (LLNs), considering its open and standards-based architecture at the ne...
